Charlotte Jordan is a self-taught surreal animal artist currently living in Sarasota, Florida. In 2019 she took the path of a full-time art career and developed a unique style and while continually growing her audience. She grew up near the moors and forests in a charming village in southern England. In this place of mystery and natural beauty, she was heavily influenced by her upbringing of the English culture. Her works portray animals and nature in various ways, whether it’s beautiful or sinister. She is often inspired by surreal or fantasy subjects, which she combines with her animals to create something unreal and strange. Each piece is highly detailed and imaginative, stemming from her recollection of English mystery and beauty.
“I have been creating art for as long as I can remember. My family has always been creative one way or another, and they have encouraged me to keep pursuing art over the years. I started as a pen and ink artist at the age of 11, drawing dragons and other fantsy subjects. Once I started to experiment with different mediums, I found watercolors and fell in love with them for a while. Now my main medium is acrylics, which I love for its diverse application. I started down the professional artist path in 2019 hoping to make it my full-time career. While it was challenging I have learned so much and impoved my skills as an artist. I became a teacher, painter, writer, marketer, salesman, and businesswoman all in one. It will be a continual process of learning and improving as I continue this journey!”
“People ask me why I paint animals. I paint them because I love to portray their beauty, their connection to the world, and the way they affect our lives. Animals teach us so much from rality, spirituality, survival, friendship, power and grace, and many other lessons. I have huge respect for them, especially felines which resonate with me the most. Cats are both light and dark, carefree and mysterious, spiritual and grounded. Having lived my life around them, I understand them best. I want to portray the many aspects of felines and other animals. Everything from their personality to their energy.”
